Marshalls lose at home, as do Lea Park

BASSETLAW CHAMPIONSHIP

Killamarsh 242 for 7

Marshalls 166 all out

MARSHALLS failed to follow up last week’s victory in the top division as they were soundly beaten at home by title hopefuls Killamarsh.

On winning the toss Marshalls opted to field and soon broke through as Burdett was caught by Deacon off the bowling of Daren Andrews for one.

Runs were then accumulated steadily until Andrew ran out Davies for 20, and Whiteley followed soon after, caught by debutant Tom Lane off Hearn to leave Killamarsh on a precarious 54 for 3.

There then followed a match-winning stand of 129 between opener Bull and Ludlam.

Several bowling changes were made to try and stem the flow of runs and one finally worked as Ludlam was caught and bowled by Whitlam for 62.

Bull followed in the next over, caught at midwicket, Saint was run out for 10 and Watts bowled for 13 as Killamarsh finished on 242 for 7, Whitlam taking 3 for 25 and Hearn 1 for 30 in an excellent 12-over spell.

Marshalls had a bad start in their innings as van den Heuvel was bowled for two, soon followed by Housham, caught behind for the same score.

Greg Andrews made a quick 15 before departing and this brought Tom Lane to the crease for his first innings for the club.

He and Allen added 76 before Allen was caught behind for 52 and this signalled a collapse as Lane (27), Whitlam (0) and Hearn (0) all followed back to the pavilion.

A stand of 31 between Blood (14) and the injured Deacon (17) made the score look respectable but when Daren Andrews was caught at short cover Marshalls were disappointingly bowled out for 166 and five points, Killamarsh claiming the full 20 points.

Thanks to scorer John Connor and match sponsor Kerry’s Ingredients.

DIVISION ONE

At South Wheatley: MANSFIELD AND PLEASLEY (17) 232 for 4 (Patrick Gada 96, Mark Revill 67), drew with NORTH WHEATLEY WITH LEVERTON (6) 177 for 8 (Wayne Harrison 59, Jon Loates 79).

DIVISION TWO

Lea Park 175 for 9

Clumber Park 177 for 4

LEA suffered only their second defeat of the season when they hosted league leaders Clumber Park on Saturday.

They lost the toss and were asked to bat and Clumber showed why they were top with an opening spell of fast and accurate bowling.

Openers Chris Needham and Elton Moulds dug in, however, and got Lea of to a solid start until a change of bowling saw Moulds caught at slip for 35 with the score on 62.

Andy Lobley came to the wicket but only another 10 runs were added before Needham was bowled for 27.

Andrew Whitley was next in and he only scored 11 before he was bowled leaving Lea 90 for 3.

Mathew Housham came to the crease and he and Lobley took the score to 138 before Lobley was run out for 27.

This started a collapse as Marriott, Ironside and Anderson were all out quickly leaving Lea 154 for 8 with Housham also going for a well made 39.

David Law and Ben Alsop finished with style, however, leaving Lea 175 for 9 at the close.

Lea’s opening bowlers Housham and Law bowled well but Clumber started very aggressively racing to 27 before both bowlers took a wicket leaving the visitors 27 for 2.

Clumber did not change their attitude, however, and when Ironside eventually took a wicket Clumber had reached 101 and looked in control.

Despite Marriott taking a wicket at 134, the innings of Beard won Clumber the game as he finished on 99 not out and Lea were left to regret the three difficult chances which they put down.
