Loss is good preparation for cup
GAINSBOROUGH entertained Ollerton in wet, windy conditions and showed two changes from recent weeks as Grant Bell and Howard Russell were not available.
Gainsborough took the lead through a well-taken try by Aaron Dawson to go 5-0 up, but Ollerton came back at the All Blacks and their first points were put on the board by a very fast full-back – with the try converted.
The All Blacks kept the visitors at bay by strong tackling and good kicking, efficient catching by Mark Waterland, excellent cover by Paul Hooton and Albert Parker but the pressure eventually brought Ollerton their due reward.
The ball was passed through the backs and on 25 minutes it was touched down on the right wing. The try was converted and the visitors were 14-5 in front.
There was a try for Dan Hipkiss as the home side were dominating play but just before half-time Ollerton scored to make the half-time score 19-10 to the visitors.
The All Blacks had all the possession for the first 20 minutes of the second half and were camped in the visitors half.
But the visitors hit back and moved the ball skilfully to touch down and convert to make it 26-10.
Ollerton's greater experience told from this moment of the game and they scored two more tries but Gainsborough never gave up and Man of the Match Chadwick broke clear and ran the full length of the pitch to touch down.
Mark Ellis touched down for a converted try to make the final score 48-22 to the visitors.
Not a win but the game was excellent preparation for the Lincolnshire Cup game against Cleethorpes this Saturday (4th April).
