WORKSOP SNOOKER LEAGUE

LEADERS of Division One, Welbeck A, continued their great season after beating the current holders of the Knockout Cup, Notts Arena.

The first frame between Simon Broughton and Darren Presgrave was punch and counter punch as the lead swapped hands many times with Broughton just edging the opener by 17 points.

Ricky Wyld then played well, wiping out the handicap and taking a commanding lead against Martin O’Conner to win the second frame by 22 points.

Third up was Phil Robinson against captain Daz Medcalf.

Despite some great pots from Medcalf he could not string anything together and that combined with Phil Robinson’s good form meant that at one point a big win for Robinson looked on the cards.

However Medcalf did take brown, pink and black to reduce the loss to 14 points.

The three Welbeck wins combined gave Richard Hill 53 points start against young superstar Ash Carty.

Carty set off well keeping Hill on the top rail and in all sorts of trouble at times.

When Carty got his chance he made a promising 33 break, which only faltered when missing a regulation black, much to the relief of the home team as there looked to be many more points available.

The game changed after that and Hill looked a little more comfortable potting green and brown to put the frame beyond Carty to see Welbeck A progress into the next round .

Results: Harworth beat Hodthorpe, Langold Pocket beat Dinnington C, Notts Arena C beat Stanley St B, Breakers S beat Notts Arena B, Tickhill beat Longden Terrace, Warsop WMC beat Bassetlaw C, Welbeck B beat Bowling Club.
