High scores in Maltby games

MALTBY main were involved in two high scoring affairs this week, picking up a point at Arnold Town, before an exit from the Sheffield Senior Cup at AFC Emley.

On Saturday Maltby were 3-0 to the good with 13 minutes remaining in the game, but contrived to give the hosts a share of the spoils.

Brian Cusworth got the first of his brace before half-time, and added a second after Sam Foulds had made it 2-0 on 70 minutes.

But A Tristram Whitman double and a goal from Darren Mansaram helped Arnold to a last-minute comeback.

Tuesday night’s cup game was another thriller.

Ashley Flynn made it 1-0 to Emley on seven minutes, but Rob Branagan hit back 20 minutes later for Main.

Antony Leech put Emley back in front, and made it 3-1 before half-time.

Flynn’s second had Maltby in real trouble, 4-1 down on 51 minutes, but Branagan reduced the defecit with his second.

Mark Stuart’s 70th minute effort brought Main even closer to levelling but there were unable to find an equaliser late on.

On Saturday Chris Dunn’s men host Armthorpe Welfare, before the visit of Winterton Rangers in the League Cup on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
