Give me extra, says manager
SIMON Clark expects his Worksop Town side to show the same energy and movement that helped them beat Nantwich Town in the first game of his tenure, when they visit the Dabbers on Saturday.
That 3-0 victory, in Clark’s managerial debut at Sandy Lane, kickstarted a run of form that saw Tigers go 12 games unbeaten.
But they’re currently entrenched in another run, with no wins in the five games they’ve played in 2012.
Clark wants a return to the kind of performance he was treated to on 8th October.
“It was my first game in charge, and I expect the same energy, pace and movement,” he said.
“That’s what I want to get back to.”
“It’s important that we get back on track.”
“We want that hunger and energy, that extra five per cent.”
“If we do that then technically we’re okay, but we’ve got to stop conceding goals.”
Clark went to watch Saturday’s hosts this week at Marine.
He described Nantwich top scorer Michael Lennon as the one to watch.
“I went to see them and they had a reasonable draw at Marine. Lennon is a threat and they’ve got another lad up front who runs around a lot.”
“It’s an opportunity, as every game is, to start climbing up the table.”
“If we beat them we go level on points with them, with a game in hand.”
Worksop Town took on Lincoln United at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, on an artificial surface, and the gaffer was pleased with the run out.
Speaking after his Tigers won 2-1, in a game consisting of three 30 minute periods, he said: “It was a very good exercise for us.”
“We had three or four options to look at.”
“We looked a little bit rusty but the players were excellent in training on Monday.”
l TIGERS have released defender Michael Jacklin this week.
He joined the club on 12th November, making his debut against Whitby Town, and featured at both centre-half and full-back, having previously played for Simon Clark at Stamford.
The manager also confirmed that Mario Ziccardi will not be in the matchday squads, but is remaining at Worksop Town.
l ASHLEY Burbeary is struggling to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Nantwich.
l MARC Roberts is to join Buxton on loan for a month.
The 6ft 4ins centre-half confirmed the move on Twitter on Wednesday, and the deal was expected to be signed on Thursday evening, as the Guardian went to print.
