“The standard distance race is normally 10k run 40k bike and a 5k run, however all the distances were longer.

“The first run was more like 11km, then each time you ran into transition it was another 200m each way.

“The bike was a mile longer and the final run was nearer 6k.

“I was more than happy with my time considering the heat and the extra distance. It was a hugely competitive age group with some semi elite age groupers.

“The first woman in my age cat was the first woman overall so I will take top 10 in the world, especially after the back end of last year when I picked up a stress fracture in my foot right before the World Championships.

“I will keep striving to improve my times and positioning. After returning home on a high I went to watch the Brownlees Triathlon elite race in Leeds, which inspired me more and I came home to enter the Hull 10k race to keep me focused.

“I came eighth female out of 1609 in a time of 41.36.”
