Dinnington lead Clipped twice in home draw
DINNINGTON Town were pegged back twice by visitors Clipstone Welfare at Phoenix Park on Saturday.
The hosts went ahead through goals from Liam Cartledge and Michael Trench, but on both occasions Welfare responded and with the score locked at 2-2 the spoils were shared.
Dinnington welcomed back long term injury victim Andy Sykes to the bench and new goalkeeper Sam Jepson on loan from Worksop Town.
In an entertaining game both teams played some bright attacking football.
Clipstone had a chance to take the lead on seven minutes when a right wing cross just evaded the outstretched leg of a striker.
Town responded and took the lead when veteran striker Cartledge scored with a looping header from a good cross by John Roper.
Town continued to attack and had a chance to increase their lead when Matt Lepianka made a powerful run from his own half but shot over the crossbar.
As half-time approached Matt Smith forced the visiting keeper to save with his feet and Martin Wade had a strong cross-cum-shot cleared.
In the second half Clipstone changed to a more attacking formation and were quickly on level terms when Jimmy Adcock was on hand to force home a rebound after Jepson had made a brilliant point blank save.
The visitors dominated the early play while Town took some time to adjust to Clipstone’s new formation.
Town regained the lead on 62 minutes however when Cartledge was upended by the Clipstone keeper as he was about to score, after a fine flowing move which cut open the visitors’ defence.
Home supporters were mystified when the referee only produced a yellow card, and Trench stepped up to score with a well taken penalty.
Clipstone pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded when Adcock scored a well worked second goal.
There was a flurry of substitutions but nothing more than a few minor scares at either end as the game ended all square.
Town boss Steve Toyne was left bemoaning his side’s inability to convert their first half chances, which would have given them a much needed and deserved victory.
