Darts: Mixed fortunes for county
LINCOLNSHIRE'S darts team started the festive month started with a home game against Devon.
The Ladies B Team struggled to settle and the outcome was a 4-2 victory for the visitors, with the home winners two players making their return to the county squad.
Michelle Creasey (Middle Rasen) won 3-1 and lady of the match Chris Veitch (Lincoln) recorded the same scoreline but with a slightly higher average.
The Men's B Team on the other hand enjoyed a great result with the loss of only two points.
Marty Richards (Middle Rasen) started the ball rolling with a 3-2 win and 24.13 average; Martin Bell (Skegness) making his debut for the county secured a 3-1 victory and scored a maximum; fellow Skegness team-mate Simon Stainton, also with a maximum, won 3-1; Rick Hunter (Lincoln) made it 4-0 to the home side; Leon Bailey (Barton) won 3-0, Will Skellett (Sleaford) won 3-0; Jon Bywater (Lincoln) won 3-1; Nathan Careless (Skegness) won 3-2 and Roy Horrocks (Lincoln) won 3-2.
Man of the match was Des Houlton (Sleaford) who beat Paul Davis 3-1 which meant an overnight score of 12-6 to Lincolnshire.
Sunday saw the Ladies A Team experience the same result as the B Team with the two winners Sutterton team-mates Debra Royal and Claire Ball.
The Men's A encounter had 11 maximums as the home team suffered a narrow defeat.
Lincolnshire winners were: Ian Frame (Middle Rasen) 3-0; captain Mick Capewell (Sleaford) 3-0 including a maximum; Dave Lambley (Grantham), 3-1, also with a maximum and man of the match award; Jamie Robson (Holbeach) 3-1 and Dave Greaves (Middle Rasen) 3-2.
This meant Lincolnshire won the match with an overall score of 19-17.
Next stop just into the New Year was Suffolk where the Ladies B Team played out a draw in the first encounter of the weekend.
Captain Paula Jacklin overcame Jan Turner 3-0 with a lady of the match award, while Emma Tomlinson (Lincoln) and Michelle Creasey (Middle Rasen) won 3-2 and 3-0, respectively.
For the Men's B Team Jon Bywater (Lincoln) collected the first point and other winners were Simon Stainton (Skegness) 3-1, Des Houlton (Sleaford) 3-2; newcomer Carl Abbis (Skegness), 3-2 including a maximum, and Rick Hunter (Lincoln) got the man of the match award with a 3-0 victory, to leave Lincolnshire trailing 10-8 overnight.
The Ladies A Team had to settle for the draw with Diane Wilkinson (Grantham) winning 3-2 and was followed by Dawn Wright (Sutterton) putting in a lady of the match display to win 3-1.
Paula Jacklin (Lincoln) stepped in for the absent Shelley Bontoft-Gash and, despite a plucky performance, lost out to Nicky Doidge in the final leg.
Winners for the Men's A Team were: Duncan Hunt (Holbeach) 3-0; Dean Baker (Lincoln) 3-2, including a maximum 180; Jamie Robson (Holbeach) 3-2; Steve Hamill (Middle Rasen), another maximum man; and man of the match Leon Bailey (Barton) won 3-2.
The final score was 20-16 in Suffolk's favour.
The next county darts is at the State Club, Gainsborough, on 13th and 14th February against Hertfordshire.
