Cycling: Carl fastest on the night

Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club's Carl Johnson produced an excellent ride in the club's nine and 18 mile time trials on 11th August and was the fastest rider of the evening, with Aegir's new lady rider Rebecca Allen improving her time by 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Starting and finishing at the top of Thonock Hill, the results were: 1, Carl Johnson 48 minutes 04 seconds; 2, Mike Overton 52-57; 3, Geoff Garner 53-11; 4, Rebecca Allen 54-38; 5, Kevin Bilcliffe 59-21; 6, Simon Carter 1-02-08; 7, Bob Fotheringham 1-5-55.

Private trials (non-club members): 18 miles - Luke Mathews 53-38; Steve Brown 1-00-55; Norman Brookes 1-03-14. On Saturday evening, three Gainsborough Aegir members were racing in the Lincoln Wheelers Cycling Club Charity 10-mile time trial near Tuxford, and the results saw Shaun and Julie Pycroft riding tandem and producing a personal best time of 23 minutes 54 seconds to win the event.

Bob Fotheringham, riding trike, rode his fastest time since 2004, recording 30 minutes 36 seconds to win the top prize.

The overall winner was Jame Coleman, of Cherry Valley Racing Team, with a very fast time of 19 minutes 44 seconds.

The charity event for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research raised well over 600.

The Interclub nine-mile time trial between Retford and District Wheelers, Gainsborough Aegir and Lincoln Wheelers took place on a course starting at Torworth and heading through Sutton-cum-Lound and Mattersey, finishing at the edge of Ranskill. The overall result was: 1, Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club with a total of 117.42; 2, Lincoln Wheelers 119.24; 3, Retford Wheelers 123.71. The Gainsborough club would like to thank The Huntsman Public House and Retford Wheelers for their hospitality.

Next week's events: Sunday 22nd August - leisure ride to Sudbrooke, meet Roseway, Gainsborough, 8.50am (suitable for families and beginners); Wednesday 25th August - League 10-mile time trial, meet 6.15pm at lay-by outside Lea on the A159.
