All Blacks are too strong for Boston

GAINSBOROUGH All Blacks had another satisfying victory on Saturday when they entertained a Boston II XV who had given them a sound beating when they travelled to play them earlier in the season.

Grant Bell gave a superb all round display, scoring two tries, and he walked away with the man of the match award.

He was a constant source of support to captain Andre Russell and he drove the players forward at every opportunity, along with sharp tackling when Boston were on the attack.

Powerful scrummaging from Spencer, Shane Ellis and Mark Hildred ensured that Gainsborough won all of their own ball and some of the opposition's at set pieces and Dawson, Chadwick and Humphrey all had powerful runs.

The All Blacks took the lead through a Mark Hildred try and a second try came from a Harry Sampson penalty move, which saw Bell touch down for the first of his tries.

The final try of the half was scored by Dan Hickson who finished off another fine move that involved both Chadwick and Wood, and Albert Parker converted to make it 19-0.

The second half saw Gainsborough having to play against a strong wind but in the first few minutes another break out of defence by Dan Hickson saw the ball go through the backs before reaching Sam Bennett who scored to give the All Blacks a 24-point advantage.

Boston then totally dominated play and kept Gainsborough pinned in their own half apart from occasional breaks by Howard Russell and a field-length run by Humphrey, but most of the possession and territory were with the visitors.

Chris Kent at full-back made several timely tackles to prevent the visitors from crossing the home line.

With very little time left Gainsborough broke free and the backs took the ball forward and then Hickson passed out to Bell who fittingly finished a fine performance with the last try. Albert Parker duly converted to make the final score 29-0.
