The heavy overnight frost did its best to wreck the Gainsborough Sunday Football League fixtures and only four games out of a full fixture list could be played.
The weather has generally been quite kind to football this season and for most clubs it should not be too difficult to re-arrange any of the games that were postponed.
Fortunately, the delayed first round tie in the Trinity Trophy competition between Mattersey FC and Black Horse was played.
This will allow the second round ties due for 26th January to go ahead.
Mattersey were always likely to have too much forward power for Black Horse and despite a gallant effort by them, it was Mattersey who progressed to the next round with a 4-1 scoreline.
The only game in Division One saw FS Clumber defeat Rose and Crown 3-0 as, despite a big effort by Rose and Crown.
The quality of the FS Clumber proved decisive.
In Division Two Real Canute O30s enhanced their league position with a hard-earned 3-2 home victory over Gate Inn Sutton but both teams deserve credit for playing the game.
In Division Three newcomers Notts Diagonals moved up to third just three points behind the leaders and with five games in hand after a very decisive 7-2 home win over second-placed Morton FC.
The result fully illustrates what a formidable team Notts Diagonals are in this division.
The Rampton-based team had far too much attacking strength for a Morton team who battled bravely to the end.
Hopefully the weather will be kinder this coming Sunday allowing a full Gainsborough and District fixture list to be played.
