Prolific Denton will be a Tiger until Christmas

TOM Denton will be a Tiger until Christmas – unless his goalscoring exploits convince parent club Alfreton that he’s too good to be without.

The big striker has netted eight goals in eight games on loan with Worksop Town, and his initial one month loan deal has been extended to December.

Speaking after another brace in Saturday’s vital home win over Kendal he told the Guardian he was enjoying his stay at Sandy Lane: “I’m happy to be here.”

“I’m always happy to be playing and scoring goals, and helping the team.”

“We’ve been looking for that home win, we had a couple of Wednesday nights getting beat by teams at the bottom, but we had a good win today, 3-0 and it could be a bit more.”

His goal tally has put him right up there with the most prolific strikers in the Evo-Stik Premier, and it’s so far so good as far as the former Huddersfield Town man is concerned.

“I’m delighted with the goals. I’ve just come to score a few and get some games, and everything has gone right for me.” Having assisted striker partner Leon Mettam on the third goal on Saturday, Denton lauded the little forward’s intelligent movement.

“I’ve played up front with strikers who don’t know where they’re running, but every time I win a ball Metts is always on the end of it.”

“He’s a clever striker, good to play with.

Denton could be recalled from loan at 24 hours notice by Alfreton Town, who beat Gateshead in the FA Cup on Saturday with a goal from former Tiger Ben Tomlinson.
