Parish Church Primary School are setting the standard for football participation in the Lincolnshire area.

The school were selected to play in the English Schools FA 7 -a-side County Championships in Sleaford, in not one but both tournaments.

They were the only school in the whole of the County to have both a girls team and a mixed team in the finals.

The girls secured a very impressive fifth place with some determined performances.

In the afternoon the mixed team produced some fantastic passing football, however they were unable to turn their possession into goals and just missed out on a top four place.

Member of both teams Lydia Smith said it was great to be in both competitions: “It was a long day, but I love playing football and scored a few goals as well.”

Team manager and teacher John Anderson was very impressed with the standard of the other teams, but was extremely proud of the school’s youngsters.

He said: “It was an exciting day, even with the hail, rain and lightning storm that kept us all inside for half an hour.” We may not have won, but we certainly put our school and Gainsborough on the map.”
