SAM Duncum’s 2011/12 season has got off to a false start – twice.

The winger, pictured, based in Worksop, has suffered with injuries to both hamstrings in what he calls a ‘nightmare’ start to the campaign.

Speaking to the Guardian after the 1-1 draw at Mickleover, in which he made his return from the bench, Duncum said: “It’s been a nightmare, especially as the lads haven’t been doing so well, you’re sitting there wishing you could be out there helping them.”

“I’ve not been the only one, there’s been times when the gaffer has had his hands tied and had to field a makeshift side.”

The former Ilkeston star first pulled up in the season opener, and then picked up another injury at home to Marine a week later.

But he looked sharp as a second half replacement on Wednesday, making a couple of dangerous runs down the flank.

He said: “I’ve been stepping it up, running around before games. I said to the physio tonight we’d give it a go.”

And he can’t wait to face off against North Ferriby in the most prestigious knockout competition of them all on Saturday.

“I always look forward to the FA Cup, and I don’t see why we can’t go there and get a win.”

“It would be a massive boost, when you’re down at the bottom confidence and morale are low – there’s nothing better than a win, so if we can go and get one then hopefully we can carry that into the league games.”
