Bassetlaw League The Championship
Marshalls 1sts v Cutthorpe
A WINNING draw against Cutthorpe at Middlefield Lane on Saturday keeps Marshalls in the hunt for Championship honours.
Home skipper Paul van den Heuvel won the toss and elected to bat on a decent looking pitch hoping to post a big total.
He opened the innings along with Kev Housham and the two got off to a great start, both looking in great form despite some tight bowling.
Both men passed 50 and the score had reached 115 before van den Heuvel finally fell for 66, caught at cover.
The normal Marshalls collapse then occurred as Davies fell for two and Coles nought, followed shortly by Housham for a well-compiled 61.
Greg Andrews and Deacon came together and slowly rebuilt again and the pair added 58 before Andrews was caught in the deep for 28.
Hearn came in and hit a couple of boundaries to finish on 13, and with Deacon on 32 Marshalls finished with a decent total of 215 for 5.
The Cutthorpe reply could not have started worse as Chapman went first ball of the innings, caught at slip by Housham off Davies.
Hearn had the dangerous Cluer caught and he picked up a second wicket as Cowley edged behind to Andrews.
Cutthorpe captain Kingham joined Plested at the crease and the pair added 50 before Hearn struck for a third time to remove the former for 38.
Gary Andrews came on to bowl and he removed Hussain for 0 before Coles got in on the act to take his first wicket.
Marshalls sensed victory but a rapid 48 from Abid held them up and looked to have taken Cutthorpe to safety.
When Andrews finally got Abid and Kingham fell to Davies for 38, Marshalls had three overs left to take the last wicket.
Unfortunately, despite several close catchers, it wasn't forthcoming and Cutthorpe finished on 143 for 9 to leave Marshalls with 18 points and Cutthorpe five.
Andrews and Hearn took three wickets each but all the bowlers did an excellent job.
Thanks to scorer John Connor and match ball sponsor EU Linco.
