Trenton Dolphins in impressive form

TRENTON Dolphins gained an impressive first place in the final round of the Lincolnshire Junior Swimming League at Grimsby's Scartho Road pool recently.
The competition involved the nine to 12-year-old members of the club and they were up against Grimsby Santa Marina, Grantham, City of Lincoln Pentaqua B and Lincoln Vulcans B.
The Dolphins team had a great start, winning the first two events, and th
is set the tone for the rest of the gala as they eventually totalled 21 wins out of 49 races.
The 12-year-old girls led the way with Lauren Zaitschenko (backstroke), Jaymie Conran (breaststroke), Robyn Dand (butterfly) and Megan O'Connor (freestyle) gaining maximum points.
This was followed by the 12-year-old boys with Ben Dalton (backstroke), Billy Remmington (breaststroke), Aaron Smith (butterfly) and Jack Boulton (freestyle) also taking first place.
This age group had eight wins out of a possible 12 with the girls team triumphing in the freestyle relay, Robyn Dand was outstanding in her butterfly and freestyle 50m sprints and Ben Dalton gained top spot in the freestyle and backstroke races.
The final win for the 12 years group was in fact by 10-year-old Aaron Smith who was not overawed by his older competitors and won by the huge margin of five seconds.
Aaron then took maximum points in the 10 years backstroke and freestyle, while also in this age group Georgia McKay won her breaststroke with a personal best time.
Ten-year-olds Chloe Gilmore, Robyn O'Connor, Heather Cooke and Brittany Allbones won both the medley and freestyle team races.
The nine-year-olds had two individual wins: Charlotte Smith won the 25m breaststroke after a judge's decision, and Henry Cawte won his breaststroke race by four seconds.
The 11-year-olds also had quite a successful evening.
Jack Boulton had wins in the backstroke and butterfly races, while Billy Remmington in his first competitive 50m breaststroke race gained a well deserved victory.
The 11-year-old boys team of Jack Boulton (backstroke), Billy Remmington (breaststroke), Aaron Smith (butterfly) and Chris Gillyett (freestyle) had a titanic battle with the boys from Grimsby and won by less than half a second.
In the same age group the girls team of Emma Hitchin, Shaunie Johnson, Amy Evans and Georgia McKay had an exciting race against the Grantham team and held on to get maximum points.
The Dolphins then rounded off the gala with a resounding win in the 8 x 25m cannon freestyle event.
Other members who made valuable contributions were nine-year-olds Katie Longstaff, Maddison Green, Jake Ollerton, Aiden Clover and Thomas Humphries, and 10-year-old Bradley Janney.
Final result: 1, Trenton Dolphins 191; 2, Grantham 147; 3, Grimsby Santa Marina 147; 4, Lincoln Vulcans 141; 5, City of Lincoln Pentaqua 54.
