THE first of Trenton Dolphins Swimming Club's in-house championships for 2008 was held earlier this month and produced some highly competitive races.
In the first event, the boys 50m backstroke, Aaron Smith re-wrote the record for the 10-year-olds when his time was almost two seconds inside the previous best time which was set in 2002.
Aaron recently swam at Coventry in the 50m international pool
against the other 35 boys from the whole of the Midlands district in his age group who had qualified for the 200m backstroke.
He finished in 25th position which was a good result because he was the slowest qualifier on the programme.
Megan Stevenson, after her 100m backstroke, will share the 14-year-old best time which was set last year. Her time to the one-hundredth of a second was exactly the same as the previous best.
The girls 50m freestyle was a great race with the leading three, Katie Knibbs, Megan Stevenson and Robyn Dand, all in a line after the turn, matching stroke for stroke.
The winner was Robyn with Megan and Katie just behind in that order. The time given for all three was quite outstanding with Robyn and Megan under 30 seconds and Katie on 30 seconds.
The half-length swimmers were the group who generated most noise and passion as they swam their various styles down the 12-and-a-half metres.
It was a very good evening's swimming with many personal best times recorded and everyone is now looking forward to the next club championships in September.
Trophies and medals were presented by club president Clifford Haw and his wife June.
