THE first round of the Gainsborough and District Football League Annie Lawson Cup took place on Saturday with two matches taking place.
Elm Cottage and Ropery Inn (last season playing as Jack and Jill), who both play on the Levellings, were drawn to play each other and it was Ropery who proved far too strong for Elm, the 7-0 scoreline fully reflecting their superiority.
Mattersey FC, who were relegated from Division One last season, have made an unbeaten start to life in Division Two and they progressed to the second round when they visited Marshalls Sports and won 4-0.
In Division One White Lion continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a hard-fought but worthy 2-0 win over AFC Friendship.
This win certainly showed that White Lion will be serious contenders for the title.
Rampton Hospital used all their Division One experience to win 3-1 against a gallant Morton Amateurs who have yet to find their feet in the top division.
The only game to be played in Division Two produced a somewhat surprising result as the previously unbeaten Epworth Town were soundly beaten 6-1 by Bridon AFC.
Epworth have been scoring goals for fun so far but they were completely outplayed by a Bridon team playing their best football of the season.
