ROSES Men's first team made the short trip over the Humber for a top of the table clash with Kingston Upon Hull with five regular first teamers unavailable due to injury and illness.
In a poor performance the boys lost 3-0 and a lot of basic training ground errors were made and these will need ironing out if they are to continue challenging for promotion.
This leaves them second in the table with a tough weekend ahead - away to
Hull University Saturday and away to Royston in the National Vase Round Three on Sunday.
The Men's second team confidence prior to the game was high and expectations were of a big win over Slazengers who were sitting at the bottom of the table with no points.
Unfortunately these expectations probably led to over-confidence and the team didn't perform to their usual standards.
Losing 1-0 at home to the bottom side still leaves the team in a good position but next week will be a big challenge against Wakefield and it remains to be seen how strong the character of the team is.
The Men's third team travelled to Slazengers who were fourth in the table. With a few people unavailable there were opportunities for Thornton and Mather to step up from the 4s and show their potential.
The game was dominated by Roses and they ran out comfortable winners with a 7-0 victory. Goals came from Woodhouse (four), Thornton, Newbold and Ingram.
Next week is a home encounter against Rotherham
The Men's fourth team were at home entertaining Accomb who were having a good season sitting third in the league.
Roses are starting to put some good team play together and training ground activities are working. They took an early lead but unfortunately some poor umpiring near the end cost roses the three points as Accomb equalised in controversial style.
This leaves the 4s on four points in Division Nine but real progress is being made and the efforts will soon turn into more league wins.
Next week is an away encounter with Leeds Adel Carnegie who have still to score any points this season.
The Ladies first team had a nice trip to long Sutton but it was marred by a head injury to Jaz Bixley in the first half of the game.
The game was suspended until the casualty was rushed off to hospital. Roses were 3-0 down and conceded the game as only eight players were left available to play.
Next week will see a real tough challenge with Cambridge University the visitors to face Roses ladies. They sit one place above them in the league but they have potential to be a top challenger in the league
The Ladies second team had an interesting home encounter against Louth in the Lincolnshire league and with a relatively strong squad the 2s were hoping home advantage would secure three points.
Unfortunately they lost the game 2-1 with a consolation coal from Sleight.
Next week they have an early away against Woodhall Spa.
