Bassetlaw CHAMPIONSHIP
Marshalls 139 all out

Bridon 113 all out

A DEPLETED Marshalls team gained a hugely important victory on Saturday and eased away from the relegation zone.

They won the toss and batted first, but suffered a setback in the first over when Snell was bowled for two.

Van den Heuvel was then joined by Kev Housham and these two set about trying to build a good total.

Sensible, patient batting saw the score move to 60 for 1 at halfway, and a good score was on the cards.

However, a collapse shortly afterwards saw all the good work undone.

The captain was out caught behind, followed next ball by Joe Allen for 0, Housham soon after and Whitlam went for one to leave Marshalls on 75 for 5.

A brief rally by Deacon and Page moved the score to 100 before they too fell in quick succession, bringing together Blood and Guilliatt.

These two batted very well and added a priceless 32 to move the score up before Marshalls were bowled out for 139.

Early wickets were the key if Marshalls were to have any chance of victory, but a brief stint from Daren Andrews brought no reward, so Whitlam replaced him and a good catch behind from Housham brought the first success.

Gary Andrews then got the key wicket of Spooner to give Marshalls a sniff.

Skipper van den Heuvel decided to make several quick changes in the bowling and this worked as he and Allen came together to tie Bridon down and start taking wickets.

Some good catches in the field and excellent bowling from Marshalls’ three spinners saw Bridon collapse as Allen (5-20) and van den Heuvel (3-20) bowled them out for 113 and pick up the much needed 20 points.

Thanks to scorer John Connor and match sponsor Kerry Ingredients.

This Sunday sees the Chairman’s Day at the Marshalls ground with a Chairman’s XI taking on a Marshalls side.

There will be a barbecue throughout the afternoon and all are welcome to come along.

DIVISION ONE

At Central Avenue: WORKSOP (0) 113 all out, lost to NORTH WHEATLEY WITH LEVERTON (20) 114 for 1 (Wayne Harrison 44*) by nine wickets.

DIVISION TWO

Lea Park185 for 7

Retford II 191 for 3

HISTORY repeated itself when Lea Park made the short journey to Retford, with Elton Moulds again losing the toss and being asked to bat.

Moulds and Chris Needham opened the innings and the latter was quickly into his stride with some good shots.

Moulds was the first to fall when he skied the ball to a fielder.
