Brian Little said he was delighted with team's efforts despite their agonizing last-gasp defeat to Stalybridge on Saturday.

Stalybridge Celtic 3–2 Gainsborough Trinit

Goals from Joe O'Neill and Jody Benim put Celtic in control, but Luke Beckett and Sam Aiston struck to level before substitute Connor Jennings broke Trinity hearts in stoppage time.

The result mean
t that the Blues missed the chance to move out of the bottom three after Redditch's loss the same day.

"If we play more games like that we'll win more games," Little told the Standard.

"I thought the attitude was spot on and I can't criticise them today. To turn that game around from two goals down was great."

The home side got on top early with O'Neill shooting into the side-netting and Nathan Peat blocking Banim's drive in the first 15 minutes. Phil Barnes then turned a Warren Peyton free-kick wide.

Beckett missed a great opportunity for Trinity when he chipped over an open goal from distance after home keeper Dave Carvell rushed out and misplaced his pass.

Disaster struck immediately after. O'Neill cut inside his marker and curled a low shot beyond the reach of Barnes into the left corner to put Celtic one up on 23 minutes.

A minute later, Benim got in behind the Trinity defence to slot past Barnes after a flick-on from a kick-out fell nicely to him.

O'Neill almost made it three after a mistake from Anthony Peters, but Barnes saved with his feet from close range. Peat's header back to Barnes nearly let Celtic in again as the hosts bossed the game.

Despite being second best for much of the half, Trinity pulled one back when Beckett turned in a corner at the far post in first-half injury time.

"We were very sloppy at the start but the goal before half-time gave us hope and I changed a few things around," said Little of his double substitution at half-time.

"Greaves' legs were tired having played three times in a week and I just felt after Anthony made a few mistakes, he lost his concentration and that affected his confidence."

The goal lifted Gainsborough and within three minutes of the restart they were on level terms. Aiston moved inside and struck a floating shot into the top corner of the net.

Trinity started to get stuck in and looked the more likely to score. Aiston and Beckett both saw efforts palmed away by Carvell on the hour mark.

However, Celtic began to apply pressure in the final 15 minutes. Barnes tipped over a dipping shot and then gathered first-time shot from substitutes Greg Wilkinson and Craig Hogson respectively.

The Blues looked like they would hang on for a point, until the first minute of time added on. Barnes could only parry a cross from the left and Jennings was on hand to slot in the winning goal.

"I'm absolutely gutted," said Little of the result. "Throughout the second half, I thought we were going to win. Their keeper has pulled off two great saves at 2-2 and they can count themselves lucky to win the game."

The Blues play two crucial games next week against opposition from both ends of the table.

First up is a trip to Southport on Saturday. The Merseyside club are second in the table, but were knocked out of the FA Trophy by Trinity in December.

Then next Tuesday evening, Gainsborough return to the Northolme to take on fellow strugglers Hyde.

The Blues will be looking to avenge their 3-2 defeat to the Tigers back in August.
