Bassetlaw League Championship Division
Marshalls 1sts v Notts and Arnold
AFTER last week's victory Marshalls were looking to continue their winning ways against Notts and Arnold on Saturday.
The only change to last week's side saw Ben Guilliatt come in for Kev Housham who was unavailable.
Skipper van den Heuvel lost the toss and Marshalls were asked to bat on a green looking wicket.
Van den Heuvel and Greg Andrews opened the innings and made a good start, both playing shots around the wicket and, although not many boundaries were scored, ones and two started to build a total.
The first wicket fell in the 13th over with the score on 55 as van den Heuvel was out lbw to one that kept very low for 28.
This sparked a mini collapse as Marshalls then lost three more wickets for just 18 runs.
Andrews hit one straight back at the bowler Stephenson for 31 before Page did the same thing to North for 0. Whitlam then soon followed for 4, caught at mid-off.
This brought Mark Davies to the crease hoping to rebuild the innings. He and Coles took the score to 95 before Coles was caught for 12.
Chris Needham and Davies then added 45 together before they fell quickly, Davies for a well-made 41 and Needham for 24.
Guilliatt made 4 and Hearn 8 before Gas and Daz Andrews finished not out on 3 and 6 to leave Marshalls' total at 173-9.
For Notts and Arnold Pallister took 3-28 and Stephenson 3-30.
After tea Marshalls went out looking for the early breakthrough and it came courtesy of Hearn as he had Chapple caught behind by Greg Andrews for 6.
Pallister soon fell in the same way and this brought the dangerous Flood to the wicket. However, Hearn removed him second bal for 0,, caught by Gary Andrews.
Davis got his first wicket, having North lbw for 19, leaving Arnold 45-4.
Wickets then fell at regular intervals as Hearn took 4-24, Davies 2-24, Darren Andrews 2-25, Coles 1-19 and Gary Andrews 1-20, leaving Notts and Arnold all out for 116 giving Marshalls the maximum 20 points.
Thanks go to scorer John Connor and match ball sponsor HK Timbers.
