TWO local netball teams have joined forces to create Gainsborough's first netball club.
The new club has been established with the help of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and will provide a community club where children and adults of all abilities can enjoy one of the fastest growing women's participation sports in the world.
Just five
weeks old, and the club already boasts over 50 members, ranging from age 8-50 years old, confirming the club's status as a much welcomed addition to the local community.
The club has also successfully secured an Awards for All grant of £5,005 from the National Lottery. The award has helped the club fund a 10 week coaching program delivered by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership Community Coach Louise Key.
Louise who was recently named Lincolnshire's Community Coach 2008 at the annual Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2008 will be focusing on skills, progression and confidence as well as bringing valuable support, guidance and knowledge to the clubs seniors who will also shortly be embarking upon coaching qualifications.
Coach and Club Chairperson Laura Bee commented: "I think it is great that Gainsborough has finally got a netball club up and operational, and I am very optimistic about the clubs future development."
Club member Joshua Butler, aged eight. added: "Ever since the club started it has been great, so good I've told all my friends and now they come too!"

The club trains at: Queen Elizabeth High School - Thursdays 6-7pm (8-11 year olds); West Lindsey Leisure Centre - Thursdays 4-5pm (11-15 year olds); Queen Elizabeth High School - Thursdays 7-9pm (Seniors 15-plus).
