Stroke awards

Just like a number of your readers, I’m no stranger to the devastating effects of stroke.

Two members of my family have suffered strokes in the past and it’s a devastating and shocking thing to happen. They can come out of the blue to anyone, at any age - and that’s why it’s so hard to cope with.

I’m writing to you today to inform you about the tireless work of the Stroke Association and I’m relieved to tell you that more people are now surviving a stroke and making better recoveries.

The charity’s Life After Stroke Awards, which are sponsored by TONI&GUY Charitable Foundation, recognise the courage and dedication shown by stroke survivors, carers and volunteers in overcoming the challenges following a stroke. I was at these awards last year and it really is one of the most inspirational events I’ve ever been involved with.

One in six people will have a stroke at some point in their life. Many people know somebody who has had a stroke and has demonstrated outstanding determination in rebuilding their life. So why not nominate them for an award? It’s a brilliant opportunity to pay tribute to the people we know who show that there is life after stroke.

The closing date for nominations is 29th February 2014.
