Model Base on Gateford Road is shutting its doors due to lack of trade and a loss of customers to the internet.

The announcement comes just a day after Heart To Heart Photographic Studio in Bridge Street announced that it too was shutting its doors for good.

“Nobody comes in a buys anything from a specialist shop like mine any more, the internet has killed a shop like this,” said Raymond Ormiston, who has run Model Base since 1992.

“It’s nothing to do with rates or overheads for me, it’s simply a lack of footfall and the fact we cannot compete with the internet.”

Worksop, like any other town of this size, is dying, you only have to see all the empty shops around the place to see that.”

“Enough is enough for me and the council would probably get more money from this block where my shop is if they knocked it all down and built houses on it.”

“That’s the sad state of affairs with shops like mine these days but we cannot compete with the internet and so the time has come to call it day and get out.”
