It happened at around 1.10am on Sunday 15 June 2014 after the 52-year-old victim had entered the car park from Gateford Road.

As she walked under the barrier at the Portland Street end a man grabbed her from behind and demanded her handbag.

When she refused he tried to snatch it from her, pulling her to the ground. He kicked and punched her.

Detective Sergeant John Wadden said: “This plucky woman doggedly held onto her bag, refusing to let her attacker get the better of her. For her efforts he fled empty-handed, but left her extremely shaken and nursing cuts and bruises to her face and body.

“Were you in the area in the early hours of Sunday? Did you see anything unusual or suspicious? If so, call us.”

He is white, about 5ft 3ins to 5ft 4ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing a black woolen balaclava, a light blue hooded jacket, light grey jogging pants, white trainers and black woolen gloves. He spoke with a local accent.

CCTV footage is being reviewed and patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance and deter further incidents.

If you saw the attack, or have any information, contact police on 101or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
