A new play area worth £60,000 will be officially opening later this month.

Manton Villas park will officially open on Saturday 27th September and it is already proving to be a big hit with youngsters.

Work on the play area started in June 2014, following 18 months of planning and consultation.

It has something for children of all ages, including an Olympic basket swing, a slide, a multi-sports arena and a slide.

Bassetlaw District Councillor, Josie Potts, who has been one of the driving forces behind the project, said: “This has been my dream for many years to have a play area like this for local kids. It’s absolutely great.”

“There are too many roads to cross to get to existing play areas so this is a park that has been very much needed for many years.”

The play area has been funded by a Supporting Local Communities grant, which includes contributions from Nottinghamshire County Council, Bassetlaw District Council, A1 housing and donations from the community.

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Nottinghamshire County Councillor for Worksop East said the park is a fine example of how these types grants have been able to improve an area and to give the youngsters something to do.
