Worksop: Man donates funds from wife’s funeral to Help for Heroes

A generous Worksop man has donated money raised at his wife’s funeral to Help for Heroes.

Roy Foulds, of Dawber Street, presented a cheque for £420 to the charity which helps those who have been wounded in Britain’s conflicts.

The 76-year-old kindly made the gesture after his wife Gladys sadly passed away.

Roy said: “When we were at the crem all these people just came and gave their money, I was just amazed when it was coming in.”

His grandfather Tom was killed on 23rd August in 1916 in World War One. And his dad George died in 1942 in the Second World War. Both of their names are on the Worksop Cenotaph.

Tony Eaton, of Help for Heroes, said: “£420 is a lot of money, it will massively help our wounded guys.”

“When we first had the conversation Roy said ‘I think I have raised about £100’ but ever since then it has gone up and up.”
