Pupils from Haggonfields Primary School in Rhodesia took part in a ceremony at County Hall to mark Commonwealth Day.

The pupils were joined by the chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Sybil Fielding and the deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Dr Nigel Chapman DL.

The ceremony included raising the Commonwealth flag and the pupils sang “I’d like to teach the world to Sing” followed by Coun Fielding reading the Commonwealth Affirmation.

Brian Huxley, headteacher at the Haggonsfields, said: “The children have been practicing their song for the last three weeks and arevery excited and privileged to be part of the Commonwealth Day ceremony.”

Following the ceremony, guests returned to the Council’s Civic Suite for refreshments and the Haggonfields’ pupils gave their rendition of “Lean on Me”.
