The death of a man in hospital just days after a serious assault was due to natural causes, a post-mortem revealed.
Police named the man, who died last Wednesday, as Worksop’s Karl Pendleton.
Mr Pendleton was admitted to hospital in the early hours of 20th July after being assaulted in a property on Holmefield Road, Whitwell.
He was initially taken to Bassetlaw Hospital for treatment, however his health deteriorated and he passed away four days later on Wednesday 24th.
A Home Office post-mortem revealed his death was not related to the previous assault.
Officers from the East Midland Major Crime Unit worked in conjunction with local Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire officers on the investigation, while teams of forensic experts investigated properties in Worksop and Whitwell.
Joshua Blount, 28, of Worksop, has been arrested and charged with assault, failing to stop for police, and driving without due care and attention.
He has been released on bail, and is due to appear at North Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 4th September.
