What a loser! John sheds six stone to win coveted title

While most people would be offended to be called a '˜loser', one man from Garthorpe is over the moon to have been given the name.

John Bolton has lost a life-changing 6st 10lb to take the title of ‘Greatest Loser of 2017’, awarded at the Crowle Slimming World group.

John said: “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a loser when it feels this good. I feel like a new man since losing weight, in fact, I look so different that people who I haven’t seen for a while often can’t believe I’m the same person.

“For me though it’s the change on the inside that’s been the greatest – I’m happier, healthier and much more confident now.”

The proud 47-year-old joined the Crowle group, which is run by Savina Pemberton, in May 2016. He said: “Before I lost the weight I hated having my photo taken and whenever I saw pictures of myself I knew that my smile wasn’t real. My weight impacted on so many aspects of my life, from struggling to find clothes that I like to fit to not being able to do simple everyday tasks without feeling tired and out of breath.”

John’s weight was also putting a huge strain on his health.

He was finding it difficult to walk up the stairs at his place of work and always out of breath.

After John joined his local weight loss group he learned new recipes and tips to shed the pounds, swapping unhealthy food for fresh fruit, vegetables and home prepared meals with nothing processed.

He continued: “People think slimming means going hungry, eating nothing but salad or obsessively counting every calorie you eat, but it’s not like that at all. I love food and it’s never once felt like I was on ‘a diet’ – in fact, people are always surprised at how much food I have on my plate.”

* The Crowle Slimming World group meets every Thursday at 9.30am and 7pm at St Norbert’s Parish Hall, Fieldside, Crowle. To join call Savina on 07824642600 or pop along.
