A 17-year-old girl has been stabbed while she was standing at a bus stop this morning (Tuesday).
Police were alerted just before 7am and attended the scene, where the a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the incident.
He is currently in custody and will be interviewed in due course.
The girl was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment.
Her injuries are thought to be serious but not life threatening.
DI Suzanne Davies, who is investigating the incident, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Heaton Street this morning and may have seen or heard anything to do with the incident.”
“We have a number of officers in the area conducting enquiries and would like any witnesses to come forward with any information they might have to help us build a bigger picture of the circumstances.”
