THE LUNATICS took over the asylum as pupils from Waddingham Primary School swapped places with the teachers for a day.

The event was part of the 11 Million Change-Over Day, when children took on the roles of adults.

Headteacher Sharon Marsden said it was a huge success.

“It was really aimed at helping the children to get a feel for making decisions and understanding how the school runs, rather than just thinking that we sit in our offices all day,” she said.

“We had all the children write application letters for the jobs in the school that they wanted, then we had interviewed and whittled it down until we found our young teachers, teaching assistants and a headteacher.”

She continued: “Then the children took responsibilities by holding assemblies and lessons and such.”

“They were fantastic and really took charge. We were amazed at how brilliant they were and how hard they worked.”

Sharon added: “The children took it very seriously and really rose to the occasion. We all felt very proud of them and awarded them certificates for their participation in the scheme.”
