STURTON BY STOW: Evening of Entertainment

This annual event by A Touch of Class will be performed in Sturton Village Hall on Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm. This will include short sketches, musical and other items.

Family Worship

Will be celebrated at Sturton Methodist Church on Sunday 24th May at 10.30am with a specially prepared service to suit all ages with activities and lively music. All are welcome to share this time of praise and fellowship. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

The monthly market will be held in Sturton Village Hall on Saturday 6th June, 10am-12noon with a variety of stalls including home-made produce, books, pet foods, greetings cards, jewellery and bric-a-brac. Refreshments including bacon butties will be available.

Parish Council

Following the recent elections the Annual General Meeting was held in the Old Schoolroom with Councillor Dennis Taylor in the chair. Present were seven other elected councillors, District Councillor Reg Shore and seven members of the public. The first item on the agenda was to elect a Chairman. Councillor C. Elkington had previously agreed to be nominated and was duly elected. Councillor Dennis Taylor also agreed to continue as the Vice-Chairman and Village Hall representative. Councillor Phil Turney agreed to continue as the Youth Club representative and Gavin Widdison was elected as the Recreation Field representative. Other councillors elected were Mrs Joan Wines, Mrs Christine Christie, Mrs Michelle Grainger, William Timmins and Richard Butroid.

The financial statement, adoption of accounts re annual return and Statement of Assurance were all agreed.

The review and adoption of the following policies including Standing Orders, Freedom of Information Act, Risk Assessment, Grant Policy, Complaints Procedure, Financial Regulations and Media and Recording were all approved and agreed. The monthly meeting followed. Minutes and accounts were approved including payment for planters and plants to decorate the village for the National Cycling Championship weekend on the 27th/28th June and £2,888.56 for the Village Hall from their allowance for rewiring in the Hall. Play park equipment is also being repaired or replaced. In the open session a suggestion of planting Christmas Trees in the Jubilee Wood was discussed but no decision was made. The next meeting is on Wednesday 3rd June, 7.30pm.

On Thursday 4th June, 10am-4.30pm, there will be a live relay of the Women’s Institute National Annual General Meeting held in the Royal Albert Hall in the presence of The Queen and the Princess Royal. This is an open meeting for members of other local WI’s.

Cost will be £2 for part of or the whole day. Drinks will be available.
