South Yorkshire: Discovery of a lifetime for Woodsetts head

Selwood, 42, is also the school’s head of computing and impressed high ranked figures within the Discovery group after displaying ‘leadership and commitment to using the latest innovations in teaching and learning to enrich classroom experiences’ and will now fly out to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, for a five-day conference next week.

His methods, which heavily focuses on his pupils utilising video technology for their work, has also impressed locally and talks are ongoing with the authorities to introduce his innovative way of teaching across England.

“I rolled this out to pupils at Woodsetts a year ago and it has proven to be a huge success,” Selwood told the Guardian.

“The plan is now to try and get this out to other schools because modern technology is having more and more input on the future.

“It centres on the students making videos for them to refer to and also for their parents to see what they are doing in school. I just had a different idea and this is the way education is moving on.”

“I think that went a long way to getting me on this conference. Discovery are a massive company and it is a fantastic opportunity to put Woodsets on the map.

“I feel privileged to be chosen to be part of this event.”
