GAINSBOROUGH’S Trinity Arts Centre got its live 2012 season off to a cracking start on Saturday with the visit of award-winning folk singer/songwriter Vin Garbutt.

Vin displays the full range of emotions and his storytelling is as much a part of his show as his music, his witty ramblings having the audience roaring with laughter on occasions.

Indeed, it was his sense of humour which came to his rescue at the start of the show when he kept the audience entertained for what otherwise might have been a tedious 10 minutes while he tuned his guitar.

But when he started singing he turned the laughter to tears when he sang a self-penned number about a long lost friend who had died on New Year’s Eve in the 1970s in tragic circumstances.

His worldwide credentials came into sharp focus when he told of a concert in Melbourne where he had the audience “squirming in their seats” as he sang about the Australian Government turning a blind eye to the genocide of the Timorese people.

It was a fabulous night’s entertainment from a man with a unique talent. David Green
