Protecting against battery theft

Those who like a home away from home when they holiday have had their vacations ruined following a spate of caravan battery thefts.

There have been 22 reports of battery thefts from caravans by metal thieves in Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood since 1st April 2012.

In response, patrols have been increased in hotspot areas and police are working with caravan owners to better secure their property.

They also offered battery marking at Sherwood Caravan Storage, in Carlton Forest, to those who store their caravans at the site.

The batteries were marked with a Cremark pen, which, when applied, is protected by a layer of lacquer and is virtually impossible to remove without defacing the marked item.

Anyone with any information about caravan battery theft, or if you are approached by an unsolicited seller to buy one, should call Notts Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
