Out with old, in with new chairs

SERVICES are a more spacious affair at the United Reformed Church in Church Street, Gainsborough, after all the ground floor pews were removed.

This has left a large floor space which is more suited to varied styles of worship and other activities.

The project was done with help from an organisation called One Church 100 Uses, which helps churches modify their buildings to become multi-purpose.

Already, the community at Gainsborough United Reformed Church has been able to use the space much better, for things like coffee mornings, fund raising sales and concerts, as well as Sunday morning services.

The Performing Arts Club of St John’s also hold their practice sessions there.

But the changes are only phase one of the overall vision for the building.

The next will see the porch and front of the church altered to make way for new kitchen and toilet facilities. A sum of £95,000 will need to be raised.
