Notts: Council to explore community partnership libraries

Notts County Council is facing a financial challenge to save £154m over the next three years.

The county council’s Culture Committee will discuss progress on talks with other communities interested in exploring such plans at it’s next meeting on 3rd June.

In recent weeks, local groups in Misterton, Collingham and Sutton on Trent have all approached the county council to explore the idea further but as yet no firm proposals have been put together.

Coun John Knight, Culture Committee chairman, said: “We are keen to work with communities to help provide the library services they want and we also want a fairer deal for library users.”

“We will ensure we will work with interested groups to design the best solution for each community if they are interested in setting up community partnership libraries.”

There is also the potential for a small number of ‘mini-library’ access points in the Newark and Sherwood district being explored and discussions are underway.
