Nominate your Maltby heroes

MALTBY residents are being urged to nominate community stalwarts who deserved to be recognised for their dedication.
The area’s town council is asking members of the community to nominate who they think should become this year’s Maltby Person of the Year and Maltby Young Person of the Year.
It could be someone that has helped and gone that extra mile or perhaps someone who has achieved beyond expectation - or maybe there is someone who just deserves recognition but never receives any.
Nomination forms are available from the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall and nominations close on Monday 24th September.
The winners of the awards will be announced at the annual Maltby Civic Service at St Bartholomew’s Church on 14th October.

Last year’s Maltby Person of the Year was Lol Henson, the life president of Maltby Miners Welfare Football Club.
The former player ploughed his own savings into the club during the 1970s and continues to help out at the club.
Others shortlisted for the award included GP Dr Ronald Van Der Lijn, who cleaned the access to the Manor Field Surgery during heavy snow or Maltby Redwood School headteacher David Horrigan.
Maltby Phoenix Sword were named Maltby Young Person of the Year, following a nomination by a local resident.
The group represents the community in events around the country, winning many trophies and giving out a strong message about Maltby and its people.
Others in the running for the award were China Town Tara Young Litter Pickers and Maltby Linx volunteers Sam Mitchell, Emma Bacon and Ben Newman.
The civic service is always a celebratory event of Maltby and its people.
Dignitaries attending this year’s service include MP Kevin Barron, Lord and Lady Scarborough and Mayor of Rotherham Dave Pickering.
