Plans are starting to take shape for the Scampton Airshow which is taking place next year.

The Scampton Airshow will be a two-day event which is hoping to be held on September 9, and 10, 2017.

In February, the RAF Charitable Trust announced it had reached an agreement in principle with the Royal Air Force to organise an airshow at the Lincolnshire airfield.

Since then, work has been taking place behind-the-scenes to build the team who’ll deliver the airshow.

Chief Executive of the new organising company, Andy Armstrong, said: “An immense amount of planning has already taken place to get us to the point however we need to start engaging with the many stakeholders whose support will be essential to delivering a successful Scampton Airshow.

“I am very grateful to Wing Commander Joanne Campbell for giving us the opportunity to attend her reception and meet some of the people we’ll no doubt be working closely with over the coming months.

“For the purposes of planning, we are looking at staging the airshow on the second weekend in September.

“We now have to go out to all those people and companies we’ll be relying on to ensure we have everything in place to stage an exciting and safe airshow.

“Once this is done, we’ll confirm the dates and hopefully have tickets on sale by the end of the year.”

Wing Commander, Joanne Campbell, said: “We are absolutely delighted that RAF Scampton has been chosen to host the Scampton Airshow here in Lincolnshire and we are working closely with the RAF Charitable Trust to help them deliver what promises to be a fantastic two-day event.”

MP for Gainsborough, Sir Edward Leigh, said: “Lord Howe, at the Ministry of Defence, has written to inform me that the RAF Scampton Air Show, being organised by the RAF Charitable Trust, will take place in early September 2017.

“I am very pleased that following intense efforts by myself and others we have secured the continuation of an RAF Air Show in Lincolnshire.”

And leader of Gainsborough Town Council, Councillow Matthew Boles, said; “As a Town Council we are committed to supporting and boosting the towns profile and our tourism sector. We really want to see it develop and prosper for the benefit of the town and wider area. To have this RAF Air Show on our doorstep will have massive knock on effect for our town in many different ways, including tourism and the wider economy. It can provide so many opportunities for visitor attractions and businesses in Gainsborough to benifit from.

“This really is excellent news and deserves to be celebrated.”
