Hemswell Antiques Centre has a history all of its own.
It was once part of RAF Hemswell, the home of the Lancaster Bomber during the Second World War.
Jonathan said: “It’s perfect for a day out. You can get away from it all and spend the day exploring the maze of rooms in each building which feature an unrivalled choice of goods.”
He said Hemswell brought together Europe’s largest selection of dealers to offer the widest possible range of items.
“Within three separate buildings you will find over 300 display areas, which will keep you enthralled for hours,” he said.
“Take your time to wander through the vast array of bygone treasures and - who knows - you may discover that bargain you’ve been searching for.”
It’s not just the Brits who are keen on antiques either, there has been an explosion of trade in Japan and Hemswell now has its own website in Japanese.
Sites for China and Korea are also planned.
Centre managing director Robert Miller said the move represented a significant investment but the developments were about building for the future and giving the business a worldwide reach.
He said: “Overseas business has become very important to us. We recently had buyers from as many as 20 different countries through our doors in one week.”
If you are looking for a particular style of period furniture, the specialist dealers at Hemswell are able to advise.
There is also a wide choice of paintings, porcelain, silver, lighting and books to browse through.
An extensive selection of English and Continental furniture includes old pine and decorative fruitwoods.
Jonathan said: “Whether you have an old or new property there is a selection of formal and informal items to suit your taste.”
“For those with other interests, there’s kitchenware, mirrors, jewellery, prints and a unique collection of clocks, as well as many thousands of collectables and additional items of bric-a-brac.”
There’s always the fun of guessing what different items are worth too, a game which Antiques Roadshow viewers will know well.
