A quirky character invented by a Crowle teenager is the new mascot for North Lincolnshire markets.

Jade Curtis, 13, of Crowle, created Mark the Market Meerkat to win a competition entered by over 100 youngsters. She received an Android tablet at a presentation ceremony.

Jade said she chose to design a meerkat because it sounds like ‘market’. She depicted Mark carrying a basket full of produce available from the markets.

Mark the Market Meerkat will now be used to promote the local markets and will be recognisable to people across the area.

Coun John Briggs, cabinet member for Assets, Culture and Housing at North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Huge congratulations go to Jade; we’re really taken by Mark and think he’ll be a really friendly and recognisable mascot for our local markets.”
