The Big Co-op Clean has “swept” into Doncaster to clear paths and remove litter and debris in the picturesque Don Gorge area.
Approaching 20 volunteers from The Co-op and the Doncaster Co-op Local Forum joined forces with the Don Gorge Community Group and over ten bags of rubbish were removed to make access easier and take away debris and waste material left by earlier high-water levels.
The activity formed part of a UK-wide campaign encouraging members of the community to come together to make a difference to their local environment.
Dot Miller of the Doncaster Co-op Local Forum, said: “As a community retailer the Co-op is committed to making a positive difference to local life. The Big Co-op Clean provided a chance for members, customers and the community as a whole to come together to improve the local environment for the benefit of everyone – The Don Gorge is a beautiful place and we were delighted with the turn-out and the outcome. With more than ten bags of rubbish removed the clean up will help preparations for the summer months and the many visitors that are attracted to this area of natural beauty.”
Liz Reeve of the Don Gorge Community Group, said: “The conservation, protection and improvement of this naturally beautiful area for the public is our priority, and this work could not be done without the fantastic work of our many supporters and volunteers.”
