Tributes are being paid to a school secretary who is retiring from the New Priory School in Worksop after working there for 24 years.

Mrs Lois Traczykowski, affectionately known as ‘Mrs T’ by staff and pupils alike, was appointed by former headmaster Mr Robin Woodhead at the time of the school’s opening in September 1990.

The Priory School was not completed in time for opening, so Mrs Traczykowski found herself in temporary accommodation at Lincoln Street School.

Father Spicer, chair of the school’s governors at the school, said: “Lois’ knowledge of the area and the families we served proved invaluable as the school grew in size, growing far more rapidly than had been predicted by the local authority.”

“Within just a few years we reached maximum capacity.”

“Mrs T’s care and support for children and their families became a factor in establishing positive relationships with the local community.”

“One of the many Thank You cards sent to Lois from a mother in challenging circumstances simply said, ‘Thank you for not judging me but for being there for me’. Her care, compassion and understanding is wonderful.”

In the early 1990s the Priory school became the first school is Notts to take part in the Local Management initiative.

Mrs Traczykowski has been praised for becoming finance officer and business manager overnight, taking part in courses and training events to keep apace with the many changes.

Father Spicer continued: “Mrs T has not only supported but also the Heads at Priory School but numerous members of staff and countless children and their families.”

“It is a fact that Worksop Priory School would not be the successful school it is without her.”

“She will be greatly missed, but being Mrs T she has scrupulously ensured those who follow her are well chosen and trained.”

“We hope she enjoys her retirement which begins at the end of this term,” he added.
