Worksop Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has partnered with Bourne Group to galvanize 2,000 tonnes of structural steel used for the construction of an EfW facility at Ardley Fields Farm near Oxford.

This new project will have the capacity to process 300,000 tonnes of residual, non-recyclable waste.

“This has been a fantastic project to be involved in,” said Kevin Springett, project manager at Bourne Group.

“Once completed, the waste facility will provide a number of benefits including bringing landfill diversions down by 95 per cent, and generating up to 24 megawatts of renewable electricity which will be supplied to the national grid.”

“We used hot dip galvanizing on our steelwork due to its lack of maintenance requirements and long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion, helping to ensure the longevity of the buildings.”

Bourne Group and Worksop Galvanizers began work on the facility in February 2013, and are both on target to complete the work this month.

“The EfW facility, which was commissioned by Viridor Waste Management, will be fully operational by September 2014.

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years.
