LOCAL businesses have been wondering where the £1million that Tesco promised for town centre improvements will be spent.
We asked West Lindsey District Council (WLDC), which confirmed that the planning permission for an expansion of the Tesco store has a Section 106 agreement attached to it.
It states that prior to the occupation of the building, a sum of £1million will be paid to the council towards the improvement works to Market Street - including improvements to the footway and carriageway on Market Street, installation of new kerbs and drainage on Market Street and installation of new street furniture.
Planning committee chairman Coun Chris Underwood-Frost said: “The present works are being funded by a grant from the East Midlands Development Agency and a contribution from Lincolnshire County Council.”
“As the Tesco development has not yet started, the developer is not required to pay these monies at the moment. When the Section 106 monies are due, the council will negotiate with Tesco on the best use of this money.”
