VIDEO: New Town Mayor for Crowle

Waiting for Video...

Crowle has a new town mayor in the form of Coun Ron Stewart.

Mr Stewart was elected by a unanimous vote at the annual meeting of Crowle Town Council last night (May 13).

He said he was delighted to become mayor at third time of asking, despite a recent re-diagnosis of cancer. But he added: “After my experience of the last couple of years I feel I can pick up the baton and run with it this time.”

Relinquishing the post, Coun Paul McCartan said he had enjoyed the privilege of being mayor for the last 12 months, during which time he offered an open opportunity to townsfolk to be ‘mayoress’ or consort for a day - an honour that was taken up by many.

He spoke also of his gratitude to the “silent army” of volunteers within Crowle and Ealand’s “thriving and active community”. The Mayor’s party, held to thank volunteers, has now been put back until after the town gala, he announced.

He recalled many highlights of the past year, but spoke of “sharing people’s frustrations” over receiving communication on updates to schemes that are planned for Crowle and the surrounding area.

Thanks were extended to town councillors, who are themselves volunteers, and to town clerk Katy Fowler.
