The Friends of Gainsborough Cemeteries and Chapel have been awarded a grant of £500 from West Lindsey Community Chest to repair two headstones in Gainsborough General Cemetery.

The two headstones remember First World War soldiers.

The soldiers are not buried in the cemetery but their families have added inscriptions to family headstones.

The headstones are for Private Brighton and Private Oyitch who do not have known graves.

Private Brighton is named on the Loos Memorial and Private Oyitch is named on the Arras Memorial.

A ceremony was held in Gainsborough General Cemetery on Monday 24th March to unveil the new headstones and guests included members of the Brighton family and the Mayor of Gainsborough, Coun Lesley Rollings.
