An ex-Royal Marine who was medically discharged after damaging his hearing while serving in Afghanistan is using his skills to run fitness classes for the people of Gainsborough.

Peter Duncan, 27, joined the Royal Marines when he was 18-years-old and served in several units, conducting training in various different countries.

While serving in Afghanistan in 2008 and 2009 he damaged his hearing and was unfortunately medically discharged from service in 2012.

Wanting to put his skills and enthusiasm to good use, he decided to train as a personal trainer in Plymouth.

Peter said: “We have got a little girl and we struggled with child care.”

“Our family are here so we moved back to Gainsborough.”

“I had a look around and no one else was doing anything like this.”

“I started the classes at the beginning of winter last year.”

Peter, alongside his wife Jessica, set up their own business, Regain Fitness, and their classes are going from strength to strength.

Jessica said: “We offer a friendly, supportive environment for everybody at a brilliant rate and Peter also has extensive training and knowledge.”

Peter added: “I really enjoy it, it’s not really work.”

“We are getting really good results from people.”

“As I served as a GD marine for my whole career, fitness was a big part of my life and now I’m out I would like to pass on my passion and enthusiasm for fitness.”

“I find that exercise makes you feel good and look good.”

All of Peter’s classes take place outside at Morton Playing Field and as well as exercises such as tyre flips, press ups and planks also include fun games including Hungry Hippos and Stuck in the Mud.

There is no need to book in advance for a class.

Just turn up and get stuck in.

The outdoor group sessions take place at 6.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

Sessions cost £4 but your first session is completely free.

There are also ladies only sessions at 7.45pm on Tuesday and Thursday at Morton Playing Field or at 9.30am on Wednesdays at GAPA Children’s Centre.

You can also pay in bulk and a month of unlimited outdoor sessions, including ladies only sessions, costs £28.

Peter also offers personal training sessions at West Lindsey Leisure Centre for £25 per session
